Dog Enrichment Made Easy: The Muffin Tin Game

Looking for a fun activity for your dog? The Muffin Tin Game is easy to set-up and poses a fun and unique challenge for your dog to enjoy!

The Game:

Treats are hidden in each cup of a muffin tin and covered with tennis balls. Your dog will have to use their nose and their memory skills to remember which treats they've grabbed from the muffin tin. They will have to get creative to remove the balls from the muffin tin to reveal the treats!

What You'll Need:

  • Muffin Tin (We recommend a 12 Muffin Tin for more chances to play!)
  • Small High Value Treats (We love Zukes Mini Naturals - Salmon Recipe, but any of your dog's favorite treats cut into small pieces would work! You can also try small pieces of cheese!)
  • Tennis Balls (You will need 1 tennis ball for each muffin cup in the tin - 12 for a 12 Muffin Tin and 6 for a 6 Muffin Tin)

Small Breed Tip: If you have a smaller dog breed, try a Mini Muffin Tin instead with smaller sized balls such as Mini Tennis Balls or Ping Pong Balls.

How to Play

Step 1: Place a treat in each muffin cup.

Step 2: Place a tennis ball on top of the treat.

Step 3: Set the prepared muffin tin on the floor and encourage your dog to check it out! If your dog is new to the game, remove a tennis ball to show him that there's a treat underneath.

Step 4: Encourage your dog to sniff for treats and to try to displace the tennis balls so they can get the treats underneath!

Need more of a challenge? Once your dog has mastered it, you can make the game more challenging by placing the tennis ball back in the empty muffin tin after they've found the treat!
